What is Breathwork?
Breathwork is the intentional practice of using specific breathing patterns to influence your physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Unlike automatic breathing, which happens unconsciously, breathwork invites you to take control of your breath as a tool for healing, clarity, and transformation

Your breath is the remote control for your nervous system.
When you breathe with intention, you send signals to the vagus nerve and brainstem that it’s safe to relax. This shifts your body from survival mode (fight-or-flight) → into rest, recovery, and healing
Why It Works
Your breath directly impacts your nervous system, circulation, and brain chemistry. Through simple but powerful techniques, you can
Shift out of fight or flight (stress response) into calm and balanceImprove oxygen efficiency, which boosts energy and enduranceInfluence heart rate variability (HRV), a key marker of resilience and longevity.Trigger the body’s relaxation response, lowering blood pressure and reducing inflammation.Support emotional release by calming the limbic system(where trauma and emotions are stored)

Breathwork can feel grounding and meditative or energizing and transformative, depending on the technique. Many people describe:A sense of lightness and clarity.Emotional release and inner calm.Increased focus, creativity, and resilience.

What to Expect in a SessionGentle guidance, music, and structured breathing patterns.Safe and supportive space (trauma-informed).Every session includes grounding at the end so you leave calm, clear, and energized.

Research shows breathwork can reduce cortisol levels (stress hormone), lower blood pressure, and improve sleep quality.Studies on rhythmic breathing and pranayama show measurable improvements in focus, memory, and emotional regulation.Practices like intermittent hypoxic breathing (brief breath holds) stimulate nitric oxide production, which dilates blood vessels, reduces inflammation, and improves circulation.

About Roots to Wings Breathwork

Hello name is Tara Saunders
My career as a first responder has been filled with purpose and moments of deep reward, but along the way, I carried far more than I realized. The unspoken culture was “suck it up, buttercup” and “stuff it in a box.” That box doesn’t stay closed forever. The stress, the grief, the unprocessed emotions — they don’t just disappear. They linger in the subconscious and in the body, slowly weighing you down.
Without even noticing, I had been living most of my life in a constant state of fight-or-flight. My nervous system was on high alert, my body always braced for the next emergency. Over time, that way of living wasn’t just exhausting — it was unsustainable

In my search for healing, I was fortunate enough to find breathwork, a new tool to help find the peace and balance I craved. At first, I didn’t know what to expect. But as I explored different techniques, something shifted. Breathwork gave me space to release what I’d been holding onto for so long. It allowed me to calm my body, quiet my mind, and reconnect with myself in a way I hadn’t felt in years.Breathwork has been instrumental in my journey — it helped me transition from merely surviving to truly thriving. It showed me that healing isn’t about ignoring or stuffing down what we carry, but about finding safe, intentional ways to let it move through us.My mission is simple:
To share this practice and help others learn how to breathe on purpose.
Whether you’re carrying hidden stress, navigating trauma, or just longing for more peace in your daily life, breathwork can be a doorway back to yourself. If it could change my life, I believe it can make a difference in yours too.
